Boarding Flight 759 To Utopia

In this current social structure, is it possible to love more than one individual? Not talking poligamy as it is practiced by Mormons, and other Fundamentalists, because I feel that this is a system that is abusive to women, and does not provide a satisfactory emotional situation. I'm imagining more than the free-love of the seventies, which was just as open to abuse. cos it's not about sex, it's about the emotional aftershocks. beyond the core couple, this staple that society or genetics has developed, sexual relationships outside of this have consequences on the psyche, in particular, guilt. I'm inclined to believe it is a direct result of the influence of the roman catholic church on western society, particularly noting the concepts of sin, original sin, confession, and forgiveness.

But Why Is It So? Would It Be Better Another Way? Imagine you could have more than one meaningful relationship at the same time. Many people do now, but at a social and emotional cost- they may suffer guilt, be unable to completely involve either partner into many aspects of their live, and end up favouring one partner at the emotional cost of the other. Jelousy, Envy, Spite, many of the darker emotions rise up when a person "cheats" on another. What if society told people that sex wasn't meant to be stuck in the binds of marriage? That you don't have to break up with someone because you've found someone else? these are just questions, becuase i'm not an anthropologist, nor do i have the tenure to develop a proper thesis. I just feel that monogamy has its downsides too, and many of its' positives are negated in a sufficiently supportive community. "Sticking together for the kids" makes little sense when daddy keeps beating mommy with a chair, perpetuating an existence of domestic violence.

Consent is Important. This change in society could only work in a complete rebirth of society, i believe. if there is one example of jelousy, then doubt into the viability of this structural event would occur, and then boom, back to jelousy again.

New Books

$80 later, three books.

So that should keep me occupied till christmas, sorry, non-denominational secular holiday, unless my unemployedness keeps me stuck in the books for the next two days and then bang, it's all over. Jonathan because it's absolutely facinating, Oil because i'm hooked (like america! hah! *boom-boom tish*), and Natural Capitalism cos i liked The Corporation, but it's not giving me the satisfaction of Going Native, and hopefully it'll defuse some of this fascist religious fanaticism pessimism i've developed. Sunshine, on my shoulders won't give me melanomas if i get out of the sun in 15 min

Non-Smokers Die Too

Don't get me wrong, smoking tobacco is a vile habit that should be replaced with low-thc marijuana ciggarettes. The point is that living the right way doesn't make a difference, you'll still die. is there a difference between quality of life and quantity of life? you could stretch a boring life over 120 years, or enjoy the fuck out of 50-odd. Artists like Hendrix or Elliot Smith, die in their prime, or some fucking bank manager who pays off his mortgage and plays golf till he has to move into the retirement village, then plays bridge till he dies. fuck that.

Thou Shalt Not Use Air-Con

It's a guilty pleasure. a horrific abuse of energy. but my got, it's 35 celcius outside, and 32 in the non air-con rooms, but such a gentle 24 right here in the entertainment room, and despite my shame about the energy use, I'd beat the hordes off with a stick to keep the beast running. It's part of this quick-fix society we live in. what else could have we done to reach the same cool point?

But that's like four guys you have to call out, whereas air-con gets one guy out, and it's cold four hours later. while all that effort is worth it for the house costs and the environment, it's all me me me, now now now. Still, gotsta make the effort so the grandkids know what a tree looks like without looking it up in a book.

Abortion Fights In Australia

The Sydney Morning Herald has a few articles on this new shitfight that Tony Abbott, one of the few outspoken religious members of parliment, has started. Why bother though? is Australia really as religious as the US? I Don't Think So. Sure you've got your Hillsongs, and there is an influential Catholic segment, but like honestly, it's not my place to choose.

It's a woman's decision, between her and god. Sure we shouldn't be encouraging it, that would just be like this. but society has no right to force it's views on a woman. Granted there are scenarios where abortion is unethical, but there are a lot of unethical things going on that cost human lives.

If you want to stop abortions, then don't banish women who will do it anyway to the bathroom with a coathanger. Help the woman, persuade them that the community will support that child. It's not likely to happen when the government lowers the welfare for single mothers... Make a society where women aren't pushed into a corner where abortion is the only choice left, and then maybe it won't happen anymore.

Individual Vs Society

How do you convince the individual that it is in their individual interest that all of society is better off? how, if the homless are not desparate, you can go for a late evening stroll through the park and not get mugged? that if your taxes pay for their education, then they will be better educated and earn more and pay more tax to your benifit? that helping someone creates an obligation that will be repaid in your times of trouble?

That fear you have of strangers. that awkward stare you get when you walk out of a supermarket without buying anything. A discord in your existence, this fabricated society built up around us, barricading the self from dependence on others, never quite sure when you make the jump that someone'll catch you...

Government Money

So this visit to Centerlink was a smooth event, I'm now on my way to youth allowance since I quit my job. I'm feeling fully justified in taking this money from the government, for several reasons;

It's only $186 a fortnight, which is enough for Booze and Fuel, so essentially I'm still living off my parents. It hasn't really grown to the point where I could rent and eat as well, which would be nice, but I guess it does provide incentive to get the fuck off my arse and get a godamn job, ya dole bludger. thinkin of lookin in the city so i can move out, closer to A Decent Uni. Keegan Hughes, Political Scientist. wouldn't it be nice...

Hillary Clinton '08

I'm determined to not let this get me down. I will not blame the american people, or either party for their failings. I'm going to lay it out though - the choice made on tuesday will ultimately be the downfall of the US Hegemony.

Things to Look Out For;

SUVs'll get bigger, Petrol'll get more Expensive, Iraq'll get more Quagmirely, and oh, yeah, "Security Moms" will feel safer. God Bless the Fascist States of America. oops, I mean United.

Is it just me or has the south gotten a whole lot bigger since 1865? I mean, like that Red Section has totally squeezed the blue bits to the edges, and yeah, I know those edges are worth heaps, but obviously not enough to matter. at least in the Electoral College System anyway. just one more thing;

Terroist Attacks Since George W was Elected: One per Term.
