C'mon And Get Down With The Sickness

Mein Got! if that's how you spell it, at any rate. It's been a couple of days, and those days haven't really been filled with the kind of wonderous amazing stories that justify a blog entry. Monday saw the last exam, and getting drunk with kev and his mate and this girl, but that's Kev's story so I won't bore you with the details, save we didn't head out, and we were drinking from 2 till 9:30, when i plonked off to bed, had the worst nights' sleep I can remember, and woke up with the nastiest of colds, which has been abating ever since, and today I'm feeling human again. I'm going to have to nag each and everyone to come over tomorrow night, the weather's awful and Nikki's doing pretty much the same thing come Sat Nite, but we'll see. we'll see. I've spent around 11 hours the past couple of days watching Band of Brothers again, and i've caught myself being sentimental - there's a couple of scenes in the series which really get to ya.

More posting on sat perhaps, depends on all those variables out there, like the internet not wanting to connect yesterday. but then again, yesterday i couldn't've sat at the screen for this long...

Cali Dreamin'

Having sunk deep into a shameful Australian winter, I've begun to crave weather extremes, my desires thrown about erratically. One moment I'm scraping to a halt, throwing a screen of powder in the air, glistening for a moment under the cold mountain sun, and everything tastes clean. Mountain Fresh.
Then the light fades, sinking through the spectrum as it sinks in the sky, and the world is bathed in orange, everything glows with the warmth that won't fade for lack of light. The hot Santa Ana winds drifting out to Sea, baking the world as the brightness leaks away.

The Apartment is Cold, Mouldy and Airless. I haven't been out all day. Tomorrow I get to escape to the joys of the final exam, a brief moment of drudgery before a return to Job-Hunting, the AC Nielsen position hardly guarunteed, and the Snow positions few and limited. Bars everywhere seeking more experienced staff, or willing to take on anyone provided they're willing to waltz about in lingere during winter.

Back in this world, while we couldn't make it all the way to Cathy's we found out that Woodport on a friday night is halfway decent, though still an oven to dance in. Largo has wasted away to a shadow of its former self, and my sobriety coupled with the rain lited my willingness to even attempt to pick up, when coupled with the odd vibe I got from a few msgs over the course of the night. That was then, this is now.

Friday Y'all, Come One Come All,
Rain hail or shine we gonna have a ball.

Whenever you rock up is fine with me, the thing in question is that the Dudes running the Horden have opened a tab on a bar in the city from 4.30pm, so i'm working on a plan which gets me there for as long as I can, knowing that whenever people rock up they'll prob have stuff that needs to go somewhere. might be worth checkin with them to see what I can work out.

Less Normal.

You Are 55% Normal
(Somewhat Normal)

While some of your behavior is quite normal...
Other things you do are downright strange
You've got a little of your freak going on
But you mostly keep your weirdness to yourself

The iKea Nesting Instinct

yes, iKea. like iPod. Bought a salt shaker today, and a new chopping board, and I'll probably be going back after my last exam to get a Desk, Chair and Lamp. actually thinking i should go back tomorrow, because if I set it up maybe I'll actually get some study done cos the 6 days that I have left are starting to fill out, and I don't have a morning to cram in like I did for American Studies. It's confusing in my self-image to want things from iKea, the disdain I've developed for the consumer culture conflicting with the desire that the marketing creates. nt even marking, just the desire to be a part of the culture. any culture. Nothin like watchin Fight Club to remind you that you're wasting your existence one blog entry at a time. at least I got out of the house today, if only to go down the road to the iKea.

Contributing to this feeling was the McLibel story that just finished 5 min ago on SBS, I'd seen it first way in the way back when I was still working at McDonalds, and this Doco helped me keep off the grease for a long time. Even sitting in Mcdonalds with people while they ate, and I'd go hungry rather than eat it.
so succumbing to the Golden Arches was somethin different to the Vegetarian thing. Kind of hard to explain. Vegetarian was a fight within myself, and against the Arches was against another entity. I'd started it long before I went vegetarian, and It's more of a lapse than a giving up. I'll probably eat it less than four times a year, because of the emotion that it evokes.

It tastes like America.

The Non-Conformist Oath

There's Nothin quite so shameful as a double quarter pounder with three slices of cheese made freshly for you as you go through a drive thru at 2am. The beef may be 100% aAstralian, but it's not 100% meat, the incredibly high proportion of fat in the burgers. I know something died to give me that degree of satisfaction, and all the other people that shared in that particular cow. If it all came from the same cow. I should plug Adbusters and Eric Scholsser's Fast Food Nation here, as I've probably done around this time last year, as part of the motivation of goin vegetarian.

The Motivation for giving Vegetarianism up? well, it depends. It's different to the motivation for that first Ogalo burger, which made me appreciate the level of emotion that women put into chocolate, i'd never had food make me feel so good. it's not the same as giving up the practice, it could've just been a momentary lapse. I still believe the was that animals are slaughtered is improper and don't appropriately recognise the sacrifice of a life to sustain another. But then when you have to cook 6 nights a week and you never really fully honed your vegetarian cookery skills, it's so much easier to just slice up some chicken breast, dunk it in lemon/lime juice, and then a breadcrumb/flour/spices crumbing, and bung it in the pan, along with some mash potato and some packet pasta.

So anyway we all went out for Tom's 22nd on Sat Nite, pretty good night thou I though Kim Godley in the group of people that were loosely linked to Jenny, and that just wierded me out, (godley is as godley does). It's hard to get my chronology right around this time (post-cruise), cos it's not too distant from my kidney kidnapping. I think thou, she was the last girl i'd kiseed before I got the morphine. no wait, there was that other girl at the party itself. heh heh. still, I'd rather Larissa had been there instead of Grafton, or that Jenna didn't have the bum's rush of exams.

I could get in serious trouble for these hintings in this public place, but i'm wiling to risk it, cos right now I'm not committed to no-one no-where no-how. Deleted Geneva's number from my phone, as well as the few msgs. also decided to call her Geneva from now on, it's much more cirumspect thou those in the know'll get it.

If anything, this is a writing excercise, to keep my tryping fingers in shape if not actually refining my prose atm. might whip out this Writing Creative Non-Fiction book I've been dabbling with for the past many years, but never had the willlingness to just sit down and write. the way i've been going with this blog thou it might be a good idea, make it more readable to a wider audience.

As it is, this entry's getting too long without getting much into anything. I'll be havin ppl over come 1st July, bit of a end of exams fling, and a last wazoo before i find out how much tax I owe. all invited of course, but If I'm workin than maybe not.

One Down, One To Go...

The last question was meant to be a killer, and I bet it was for everyone else, but I did have some idea and did mention two current issues. the first two, it took me two hours to remember enough about the textbook to even slightly answer them. But here I am, likely pass and that's all that matters now I'm not going to be a hot Washington intern. I'm too cute to get felt up by the president, anyway.

still, it's been a draining day, up at 6 and off to uni for 8, and then 5hrs and 50 grueling minutes of study - and it paid off! cramming worked, all the work I did that day was useable, and the stuff i had trouble on was study i'd done earlier in the week, or stupid questions that no reasonable person should have to answer. I mean, "what was the main theme of the textbook" my arse.

Other than that, it's great having a saved msg worth peeking at every so often, I'd almost forgotten how cool that is. probably the first on this phone, at any rate... out of 128 recieved messages. remember when those groups came around to school and made us do lame activities? one of them was everyone had a piece of paper that went around the small circle and people had to write something nice about everyone else, and there was a cute girl in my group, I didn't remember who it was even a week after it happened, and she was wrote "nice eyes". compliments are nice, and they do stick, when they're meaningful. But bigger events afoot, more tomorrow perhaps, but more likely sunday.

No Exams For 9 Days, Getting Paid Tomorrow For 22-odd hours of work, and Youth Allowance on Tuesday. Life Is Good. need to buy a 100pk of CDs thou cos Kevin's making a Splendour Collection, for he's off to Byron for the 23rd July. Anyway, my eyes are hurting from too much Yoshi.

Beer+Keegan = Mmm... Beer.

Back at home again after a good time out last night, having worked all day at telstra stadium setting up the Corporate Boxes, then heading down to Tezza to watch the game with me mates. I had a great time, reached that perfect state of drunkeness for a while, though it did all end in tears when I spilled some beer on my jeans. Got to talk to Jenna, even if it was only over the phone, but it's still great to hear her voice, she's still so special to me. Saw Larissa who I havent seen in years, and with any luck I'll be off to some random rover event in the not too distant future.

It was good to see the blues win, and fun randomly cheering when everybody else in the beery did. It was good havin a talk with Bec as well, getting to see her side of things and not just the side we of Gossip High had created.

just lookin at these msgs to Larissa thou, it's somehow so much easier to flirt with girls in the scouting movement. That and the miniscule amount of flirting i did with the blonde behind me(sorry about the smoke people, it was right there and an excuse to talk to what I assumed was a cute blonde), capped off a great night with mates talkin and watchin the footy.

But here I am, delaying from study. I'll get back to it as soon as I grab somethin to eat, unless that gives me enough time to think of something else to do.

Sounds... Of Silent Money

It's been a massive weekend for me, working still a bit of a shock, Saturday was Big Queer Nation, went home at 3am, and up again for We Love... Sounds, the next day for 3:30- 02:45, and here I am and it'd monday morning. $60 in tips richer, as well as all that money I'll theoretically get paid.

So more importantly, at least there were Bar Girls to talk to. in theory. Lauren at BQN had a really long convo about religion, because our bar was totally dead. she joined MDP (the crew that does bar work for events at the horden) the same time as me and kev, but she hadn't worked since mardi gras, and she groaned when it finally clicked that this was a gay event. She's a real nice girl, and it's always weird (for me anyway) talking to christians about faith. but i did come out of it convinced I need to study a bit more about the whole thing if I'm going to be secure in my convictions, or even be sure that being secure in one's convictions is a good thing. like, Evangelical Fundies believe they are right, and have very strong convictions about everything.
But it was good fun anyway, and she didn't dismiss me as a pagan as I've been before. she's a nice girl, but I don't really know her well enough, so pretty much anything I write here will be a stereotype based on my previous experiences with christian girls, as if people can be understood by a single characteristic. Like, I can't even begin to put myself into any particular Box, and doing so to another person just diminishes the complexity that all of us have. most of us anyway. It's pretty hard not to judge the Jerkwad who kept sidling up to the bar and nicking people's drinks. Karma'll get him.

Definately got to get out and socalise more, missed long weekend troppo with y'all, wouldn't've had the money for it though unless I worked, so a bit of a catch-22 there, but next time eh. Holidays coming up soon. so for now,

Peace Out Y'all.

MC Lars, Been listening to the rest of the EP, tempted to buy it even. Kev got up briefly this morning to throw up, then he went back to being passed out.

He'd better be able to come to triple J.

Mmm... Sophomores

*drools*

So it's 10:44pm, and I guess the day is officially over. The girl from the middle east class didn't go to the drinks after "Outfoxxed" (which wasn't nearly as good as i'd hoped), but i got to see her smile and laugh, and she looked at me a couple of times, but I'm so untrained I can't tell the difference between a "please say something to me, I think you're really cute" and a "Oh god, the freak's staring again. I'm glad I learnt Karate cos if he tries anything, he'll never be able to father children."

So decided to leave it, not rushed chasing after her no matter how cute and intriguing she may be, I'd rather not have an AVO out on me. it'd kinda put a dampener on the whole dating thing.

But tomorrow there's something to do, thank god. Sydney Uni's Manning Bar is host to Triple J's Chris and Craig, along with Butterfingers and some other band. and it's free I tell you, free! mwahahaha. there's beer to have here, and kev's keen on coming too so I won't be some lone freak.

Pity working on saturday though, MC Lars (of Theis busting it down at the Gaelic Club for only $15, and working Sunday's a bummer too cos Y'all are goin out. sigh. need money to go out, but also need time to go out in. This Imbalance in the Force will have to be Restored come the end of exams.

Flash! Aaah

Pointless Waste Of Time ... This is a flash movie of how Star Wars: Episode IV should've been. I'd not normally put a language warning on this one, but there's some messed up lines in it. gonna watch big brother and get back to it...

and quite frankly It's been a little annoying, one housemate reminding me of someone way too much, and my whole perception shifted yesterday and it's really strange to even see a reflection of a person differently.

Also, I walked to Bondi Junction today, hour there and hour back, and picked myself up some sweet ass shoes for half price. they're indoor soccer shoes, so they've got hard soles and they look just as good as any other crap in the mall, and at least 20 bucks less than the fancy street shoes in all those general pants co. clones. Got a hair cut too, a real cropping, to go with my new shoes. And spending money? but why Keegan? You have a shiny new telstra bill to fork out over! But that's where this working thing comes in handy. See, there's a paycheck coming from that stocktake gig, and they want to continue to hire us, AND I've got three shifts over the next week with MD Productions, having picked up the third to be next wednesday.

so that's why i didn't go for any jobs today, cos i'm too busy working right now. heh heh. kevin's off the Coast, to the Bar on the Hill for the Battle of the Bands with his peeps.

Wierd Exercising though, 2hrs of walking isn't anywhere near what i've done in the past, but it's a lot considering the fuck all i've been doing since i moved out. stumbling home drunk doesn't count. But these are indoor soccer shoes, and maybe kev'll be up for indoor too, if we can find a place round here. I'll have to get in shape. It'd be great to have a kick-around next time i'm down the coast, do something apart from drinking and failing to pick up for a change.

Felt The Chill Upon My Face

... and smiled. every moment the universe is recreated anew, and I have found a kind of peace. This Is Now, I Am Me, beholden to none and in these words I am free. such is life.

for this too has passed.

It's Like Waking up out of a dream, breaking free of these shackles upon my consciousness, the barrier between me and all that I am attracted to, shattered. the grip on my throat as I wish to talk crushed.

I am Become Death, Destroyer of Worlds.

The world I lived in as a half of a couple, no more. I am no Ex. I am a worker, a student, a bludger. I blog, I hike, I have the scars of life over this body, I have been sliced in half and stapled together again. I travelled the world at the age of ten, from Disneyland to Disneyworld, Tijuana to Niagara. John O'Groats to Land's End. I Have seen all that I have seen, and This Is Not the World I Shall Die In. When I Become Death Itself, The World I Leave Behind Will Be Better.

This is only one beer talking. tomorrow I shall walk to the beach, and return. On thursday, I shall acknowledge that girl. On Saturday and Sunday I am going to work all I can, and have fun watching drunken gays one night, and singles the other, drink to their heart's desire and find love enough for the night. Tommorow I will buy a paper, and apply for jobs. For wallowing in depression is not the world I live in anymore. The universe is created anew every moment.

and for all this, I am thankful.

Also, I reckon we all better go out sometime in the city, y'all don't know what yer missin.

Fillin' In Time

still three hours before this stocktaking gig starts at borders, so i'm fillin in time playing a bit of Super Mario Bros on the ZSNES Emulator, the game scored from the Cool Rom site. a bit of mild entertainment courtesy of a random blog leading me to a South Park Character Generator. (it's on the right hand menu of this german site.)
Tried to do a me:

Posted by Hello

Still a bit stuck on how to do all of you guys, not sure exactly why. just automatically diplomatic I guess, and I don't think anyone wants the fishnet singlet or elton john sunglasses.

million thoughts runnin through my head, scenarios that seem incredibly unlikely, but still hope burns eternal. If i went out on a weekend, some of the less complicated scenarios would be more plausible, but that requires money, and thus working till 3 AM in a book store. and I won't even get to take anything home. sigh. i used to dream about being in a book store (or lollies, or toys, but more often than usual for kids a book store) after hours, taking away a big pile of books. strangeness of reality. actually, why don't I check to see if i won the $25M last night.

hmm, proving more difficult than i remember.

though 19 are sharing the $25 million, barely worth winning it, except for the possibility that I could go out, and when asking a girl "can i buy you a drink?" actually having cash on hand to back the question up in the unlikelyhood of a "sure, my name's... "

sigh, it is possible, only by entering in the numbers one at a time, and i'd rather just have someone scan it and tell me i've got $100, so I can buy a desk or something. Maybe even some butter.

but for now, back to TV or Mario. I haven't Decided Yet. also, try downloading some animaniacs songs, i forgot how good that cartoon was. ace.

Still Counting The Days

... Till the semester's over, (25). three exams, three weeks, three shifts. that's right, work. Borders this sunday from 8:45 - 3am, doing a stocktake, like wow. Then two during the long weekend at the hordern, dance parties once more.

Also gossip. but this is hardly the place to release it, it could be about you. probably not though, I mean honestly, what has anyone done that warrants gossip?

oh really?

well you can send it to my shiny new Gmail account dailygringo(at)gmail.com. I saw someone using it in the computer lab yesterday, and I was all like Wayne - "She Will Be Mine. Oh Yes, She Will Be Mine." That and the person that was using it was like, a tall beautiful brunette, and I'm such a sucker for that body type. way more than norway.

wait, I don't want this to turn into an "I'm so Desparate" blog.

so back to gossip. nothing new, obviously, but all this politics study's been helpful in shaping my understanding of the nuances of our group dynamics. Yes, we have group dynamics, in a group of less than 20 individuals there are inevitably factions, intrigues, biases and multi-tiered relationships, spheres of influence and diplomatic relations, bi-lateral agreements and alliances.

outlining them here would be like the drawing of "The Map". People would learn things, and my understanding would only be from my perspective- I cannot begin to comprehend what all of you consider about each other. And Me, come to that. Diplomacy is key.
