Shiny New Bike!

Yay! I bought a bike today, online (it's cheaper) and I should be able to pick it up by the end of the week, about 15km down the road. at $99.95, it cost slightly less than the amount of 5c, 10c, and 20c pieces I had lying around. I'm only working about 15 hours this week, (including the Bernard Fanning concert tonight at the Hordern), so I've got to scrape my pennies together to buy anything trivial. although... a bike costs a lot less than a car. less than two weeks worth of petrol, actually. also all that saving the earth, energy policy, etc etc. Maybe my thesis tummy will fall away.

today I canceled a mailing list, told insurance and energy their services are no longer required, and council that I'll have some trash on the lawn, and they better pick it up or Bam! Ninja style kick upside the head!

20 days, and this place will be empty and ready for inspection. sigh.

Time For A Rewrite

I bought a new notebook yesterday when we went grocery shopping, and before I knew it i'd put down four pages of notes about where to go to continue writing for The Last Party. I've been talking about it to a few people again, and I'm coming to realise that I can't paint a shiny happy story where everybody wins - because that never happens. really, the human experience rarely reaches that point, and I never did. If this work is to have any long term interest at all, I have to deal with my flaws in there.

A certain government organisation just sent an email this morning, encouraging me to apply for a subsection of aformentioned organisation, which I'm very keen on doing. although my computer just froze while I was typing this, so perhaps I should say no more... It'd change the whole moving out thing though. something to ponder.

Racing Away From Me.

Looking back on last night, there were about two or three openings for me to make moves on girls. Even realised it in the moment. Just couldn't be arsed. Granted I had partaken a few so my chances of making anything of these openings were slim to none, but right now I've got that much going on, the effort and stress of relations is too daunting.

Had a fantastic time though. great hanging out with Nikki Kim and Jase. Harold Park Funbucks are amazing. A tenner got me three beers, roast beef roll, hamburger and calamari. If I'd wanted more, one lady wanted to pass on her unused foodbucks. Drinking from 5, and home by 11, walking through the city to bed while surrounded by people havin a fun time out on the town. curious situation. But not one I'm unused to.

I'd been thinking about getting a macbook via dad's salary sacrifice and a year's wait. the idea of using something other than the frustration that is microsoft. at least on this hunk of machine. Dell midrange, circa 2002. with a dell monitor circa 1998. It doesn't quite crash, but the idea of running three programs is a bit too much for it to get it's head around, and it has to take a moment to think. sometimes a couple of minutes. And it can't play Tony Hawk's American Wasteland. that's an evolutionary dead-end. moving back means we can hook'er up to dad's current laptop, with it's dvd burning capabilities, and suck this beast's memories clean.

It's a bit mindboggling really. when we did this to the last computer, I had to get a mate round to crack open the case and whack a cd burner in there to remove 10cds worth of mp3s, the sum of the collection downloaded from napster, from burnt cds borrowed, whathaveyou.

This sucka's got 40gig of music. or 10dvds worth. daunting.

So I Have To Drag Myself Out To Hornsby

Would you believe, when I got my shiny new phone a week ago, The dude had to photocopy my driver's license? and for the past week, I've been staring at the gap in my wallet, wondering what's missing? seriously, it's taken me this long to notice I don't have it, and I shudder to think of all the driving I've done without it on me. last thing I need is to get booked for not having a license.

So, in order to get into Harold Park and whatever other premises we're going to tonight, I need to head back to Hornsby to collect that precious piece of plastic. faaaan-tastic.

Why Does Jericho Have To Suck So Hard?

I mean, I've seen the concept done so well in other formats. The United States laid to waste by nuclear attacks. A small town, limited supplies, and no contact with the outside world.

but no, they don't riot. they barely steal. they can't even conceive of a communal existence. there's not a fucking zombie in sight.

I think I've been watching for... five episodes or so? not that there's anything to differentiate them. something drastic happens and you hope and pray it's finally all going to go to shit, and then the music swells, people hug, and all the tension and hints at excitement drain away. If it survives long enough, I could drop in 20 weeks from now and it'd be the same damn formula and not a damn think changed.

Seriously, it would be nice to have something else I have to do Thursday nights between 8.30 and 9.30, so I don't end up gravitating to this cock-tease of a show.

time to turn off that animated talk-show host in the background, shut down the browsers, and get back to Battlestar Galactica - Exodus pt2. (304, for those playing at home). though honestly, it's much more exciting when you watch an entire season over the course of a day.

Woah

Today I went to the Estate Agent, and handed them my written Notice of Termination. we're moving out of this hellhole 20th November. The drug dealing, money lending skank that lives in the apartment building next to us has been at it all day, yelling her head off at whoever is unfortunate enough to cross her path about 'the fucking money' and 'it's about fucking time I started drinking' and cackling like the witch she is.

There's no real need to stay here, what with youth allowance cutting out and my employment situation unable to guarantee rent/food from week to week, and my brother's exams over. so we're heading back to the coast for the summer. Or as I like to think of it, the land of free board, free food, and being stuck in the spare room of my parents place till we move out again. that'll happen by mid january, and we'll be moving out with the Bro's GF, and one of the Bro's friends, a nice girl who I get along with and I'm not particularly attracted to. Shouldn't change the vibe of the living situation too much.

I've been on the net all day apart from the hour I spent walking to the Agent to flourish my devestating letter to a dissapointingly cute receptionist, absolutely gripped by the capabilities of Digg, tweaking Firefox 2.0 to behave more like IE7, but with better capabilities, and revising my CV through Word thanks to a nice guide. i'd draw your attention to the best of the stories I've read today, but I've seen plenty of blogs that just echo everything they like, and I'm trying to figure out what this place is all about.

It's like with the thesis. I had a vague idea of what I wanted to study when I started out, but it wasn't until I had a mission plan that I actually did anything useful. browsing about for interesting facts kills a lot of time, but doesn't help much.

and now other people want the web. we'll fix that with networking at the next place, but for now that means I gotta abandon this, and post again later. maybe before I head out to Harold Park with the crew.

Theis is OVA!

Hurrah, Whoopie and Whatnot. I finished it on tuesday, got it bound and handed it in on thursday. and started working this morning. not after going on a retail binge, getting stuff that takes up time - couple of DVDs (Scream, Sahara and Evolution [ that thing with david duchovny]), Tony Hawk's American Wasteland (which I can't get to work on this lam3 laptop), and the hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy boxset of books for $12, to replace my dad's rotting originals.

But that's not all! another Flashman book, the latest Quarterly Essay, and a shiny new phone (Nokia 6233), and as soon as I get a SD card reader, I can start uploading some better quality, larger photos. and if i feel like spending $100, it'll turn into a 2gig music player. and I can't think of anything else I want from a phone.

Of course, youth is going to run out soon, so i started working again this mornin, and tomorrow after another shift, I'll be sifting through the paper lookin for something to keep me in timewastery.

though really, I'm going to download a guitar book and start practicing again, and I'm gonna get myself a pushbike for a bit of exercise. writing thesis does nothing for the physique. and it'd be nice to ride down to the beach in summer.

And I'm gonna update this more often too. Pinkie Swear.

Back in one more week

Thesis is due 17th of October. If i waste anymore time at Del.icio.us or Digg, I'll never finish it. after that, stories for al the kiddies. promise. like how i've discovered the tastiness of scotch. And how annoying it is that I can't drink because i lose my writing edge. oh wait. i'm wasting time here! aah! back to it. where was I? oh yeah, Afghanistan. five years on. I'd say that's more indicitive of the failed US foreign policy/energy policy than any delay in building a replacement tower on 'Ground Zero' in the movie parlance the media loves so much.
